Fresh Air Thinking: Rachel House, CHAS, October 9th 2007
Rachel House Team Development Event Report - A Day of Discovery!

The event was an opportunity for Rachel House (CHAS) staff to engage in a series of discussions and safe outdoor learning activities. The event also allowed staff time to reflect upon the good work that had been recently undertaken and to look forward positively to new challenges ahead.
Metaphorically, the event represented a journey of a river – which starts small and slow – but gradually gains momentum and changes direction as obstacles are overcome. The original river eventually joins up with other tributaries and shares a common direction with them on the continuing journey to the sea.
The specially formed Fresh Air Thinking team guided staff through the event with an overall aim to highlight how well staff at Rachel House work together. This was met through the achievement of the following outcomes:
- A sense of belonging to the team
- An awareness of how the team works
- An understanding of the role and task of each part of the team
Teams of seven were given opportunities to experience a training event which had a ‘Discovery’ theme. By doing so, staff got to know colleagues from different functions throughout Rachel House better. A fresh approach to ‘how you work’ was also be looked at and how ‘open’ forms of communication channels could be developed and used effectively in a day to day work situation.
Overall, the variety of fun and meaningful learning activities on offer assisted staff with discovering new things about themselves, each other and CHAS itself.
